Group Retiree Medical Insurance Programs are specifically designed for employers, unions, and their group retirees age 65 and older who are enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B.

This coverage can help shift the risk away from employers. Benefits help fill in some of Medicare's gaps in coverage-such as coinsurance and deductibles to provide more protection. Coverage enables employers to transition retirees to a defined contribution, fully insured program while limiting their open-ended obligations and reducing health care expenses and other costs involved with management of retiree coverage.

Between 2012 and 2050, the United States will experience considerable growth in its older population. In 2050, the population aged 65 and over is projected to be 83.7 million, almost double its estimated population of 43.1 million in 2012.
